SIC Japanese Language Course “HitoMachi Nihongo” Connecting with people, going out into the community, through Japanese

Who Can Participate

Content

• You will learn Japanese that is needed in many everyday situations in Japan, such as working, shopping, going out for fun, eating out, and interacting with other people.
• This is a program for adults at A1–A2 level*.
• The textbook used is “Irodori: Japanese for Life in Japan” (The Japan Foundation).
  It is translated into many languages. Please take a look here https://www.irodori.jpf.go.jp/index.html
• The program is free of charge.
• In the 2026 academic year, there will be two classes.
• Classes are mainly held online, but about twice a month there will be in‑person activities where you can use Japanese in real situations.

A1CLASS 

• Day and Time: Tuesdays and Fridays   10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
• Period： May 30, 2026 – February 28, 2027
• Number of Sessions / Total Hours
  • 68 sessions (90 minutes each) Total: 102 hours
    • Online: 51 participants
    • In-person: 17 participants

  • Hiragana and Katakana (original teaching materials)
  • Irodori: Japanese for Life – Beginner (A1) (The Japan Foundation)
• Capacity：Up to 20 participants

A2CLASS

• Day and Time ：Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:00–8:30 PM
• Period： Saturday, May 30, 2026 – Sunday, March 7, 2027
• Number of Sessions / Total Hours
  • 80 sessions (90 minutes each) Total: 120 hours
    • Online: 60 participants
    • In-person: 20 participants

• Textbook ：Irodori: Japanese for Life – Beginner 1 / A2
• Capacity：Up to 20 participants

B1CLASS

Planned to start in May 2027

How to Join

1. During the application period, apply using the application form or by email.
2. Take a level check to determine your class level.
3. After your class is decided, SIC will send the textbook to you by mail.
4. Classes begin.

Recruitment Period (April 2026 – March 2027)

Term １

• Application: April 23 (Thu) – May 15 (Fri), 2026
• Level Check: May 18 (Mon) – May 22 (Fri), 2026

Term 2

Before Applying, please read the items 1-6

1. Classes are studied online.
   Participants must prepare their own smartphone, computer, and internet connection

2. The textbook will be sent by mail from the Shimane International Center.

3. Classes are conducted in a group format.

4. Each class can have up to 20 participants.　

5. Applications can be made by the following people:

   ① People who live in Shimane Prefecture or work in Shimane Prefecture

   ② People who are 16 years or older and whose native language is not Japanese

6. A level check will be held before classes start.　Attendance is mandatory.
