This is an important notice from the Animal Quarantine Service for foreigners living in Japan.

Please cooperate to protect Japanese animals (livestock) from overseas diseases.

Most meat products, including meat such as beef, pork and chicken, and processed products such as ham, sausage and bacon, are prohibited from being brought into Japan from abroad. Please tell your family and friends who live abroad not to include these meat products in the mail sent from abroad to Japan. Also, if you receive meat products in mail from abroad, be sure to contact the Animal Quarantine Service.

Also, be careful not to bring meat products as a souvenir when you return home. When family and friends come to Japan, please tell them not to bring these meat products.

In Japan’s airports, ports, and mail inspections, we are strengthening inspections to prevent meat products from being brought in illegally, and we also carry out inspections by quarantine detection dogs. Penalties (fines) for illegally bringing meat products to Japan will be raised and you may be arrested. Also, if you try to bring in meat products, you may not be allowed to enter Japan. be careful.
