Community Interpreter Volunteer

Q. What do community interpreter volunteers do?
A. They are volunteer interpreters registered with the SIC who can provide help with various aspects of your life in Shimane (e.g. education, health and welfare, consultations, government procedures etc.).
Q. Who can use the service?
A. Foreign residents of Shimane Prefecture, as well as health service providers, educational institutes, and groups and individuals approved by the SIC.
Q. How much will it cost?
A. The SIC will cover the cost of the interpreter's travel expenses, so for the time being the service is free.
Q. What languages are currently available?
A. English, Chinese and Tagalog.
Q. How can I become a community interpreter?
A. By taking part in the SIC's Community Interpreter Course and then sitting a simple interview.
