nce upon a time, in the land of Japan, a young deer was feeling blue.
"I'm going to look for a friend,"
she said.
Slowly she lifted her slight body, looked
up to the sky and decided to follow the
sun on its way westward. So off she went
west.
"La, la, la, la, la," she sang
as she slowly walked to keep herself company.
Soon she saw a rabbit.
"Hello," she said. "I'm
looking for a friend."
"Oh, that's exactly what I'm doing,"
said Rabbit.
"Oh, would you like to look together?"
"That sounds nice. Let's!" And
off they went together.
Soon they saw a small fox.
"Hello," they sang in chorus.
"We're looking for a friend."
"Oh really? That's the very same
as I," said Fox.
"Shall we all look together?"
said Deer and Rabbit.
"Oh, yes please, if I may."
And the fox joined Deer and Rabbit on
their search for a friend.
Soon all three were tired of walking and
searching. As they came upon a small pond,
Fox spoke, "Perhaps we may take a
short rest." From a nearby tree,
Deer took a branch of green leaves and
began to fan the other animals as well
as herself. Soon all of their tired faces
began to brighten. Rabbit took a long
drink of cool water from the pond, and
Deer and Fox followed suit.
"Oh, it tastes very nice," said
Fox, and the others agreed. "Yes,
it does."
As the evening sky began to set, the Japan
Sea was painted with the vibrant colors
of red, yellow, purple, orange and blue.
A glorious sight to behold, but the animals
were busy playing, laughing, splashing,
and talking a lot. They did not notice
that dusk had descended, but it did not
matter for the animals had become the
best of friends and need not to look any
farther.
